Green software engineers design and build applications that consume the minimum necessary energy and produce the lowest possible carbon emissions. They apply principles of carbon-aware computing - shifting workloads to times and regions where the electricity grid is cleanest - alongside traditional performance optimisation, efficient algorithm design, and right-sized cloud infrastructure to dramatically reduce the environmental impact of software.
