About the Position

Fraunhofer ISE is Europe’s largest solar energy research institute and a pioneer of agrivoltaics - the simultaneous use of land for both agriculture and solar energy production. Join our interdisciplinary team to advance the science behind dual-use farming and energy systems that can transform rural economies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct field experiments at agrivoltaic pilot sites across Germany and Southern Europe
  • Measure crop yield, soil health, and microclimate effects under different PV module configurations
  • Develop techno-economic models comparing agrivoltaic systems with conventional farming and solar
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences

What You’ll Work On

  • Next-generation agrivoltaic system designs optimized for specific crops (berries, vegetables, viticulture)
  • EU-funded research projects on food-energy-water nexus solutions
  • Policy recommendations for agrivoltaic incentive frameworks in the EU Common Agricultural Policy

Requirements

  • PhD or Master's in agricultural science, renewable energy, or environmental engineering - 2+ years of research experience in agrivoltaics, photovoltaics, or agricultural field trials - Experience with experimental design, data analysis (R or Python), and statistical methods - Knowledge of crop physiology and microclimate measurement techniques - Publication track record; experience with EU research proposals is a plus
