About the Position
Northvolt is Europe’s leading battery manufacturer, building the world’s greenest lithium-ion cells at its gigafactory in Skelleftea, Sweden. The company’s mission is to deliver the most sustainable battery in the world, using renewable energy and recycled materials.
As a Battery Cell Engineer, you will work on optimizing cell performance, quality, and manufacturing yield at the Northvolt Ett gigafactory. You will collaborate with R&D, process engineering, and production teams to translate lab-scale innovations into volume manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Optimize electrode formulations and cell assembly processes for improved performance
- Conduct root cause analysis on cell quality deviations and implement corrective actions
- Design and execute experiments to validate new materials and process parameters
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers on process improvement and troubleshooting
- Document findings and contribute to the company’s knowledge management system
What You’ll Work On
- Scaling next-generation cell chemistries from pilot to mass production
- Reducing manufacturing scrap rates through statistical process control
- Supporting the qualification of recycled active materials in production cells
- Developing new testing protocols for cell performance validation
Requirements
- MSc or PhD in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, or Chemical Engineering
- 2-4 years of hands-on experience in lithium-ion cell development
- Experience with electrode manufacturing processes (coating, calendering, slitting)
- Strong data analysis skills using Python or MATLAB
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
