About the Position
Heirloom is a direct air capture (DAC) company on a mission to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere at gigaton scale. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build and own the software systems that orchestrate Heirloom's accelerated looping process - the core of our DAC technology.
What You'll Work On
Your work will span research tooling, operational automation, and production-grade systems that run at our field sites. You will collaborate daily with software engineers, product managers, and systems engineers to design and ship software that advances carbon removal science and enables reliable, scalable operations.
Responsibilities
- Design and build software to orchestrate Heirloom's accelerated mineral looping DAC process
- Develop digital tooling that advances research and establishes reliable field operations
- Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, science, and operations teams
- Define engineering standards and contribute to a high-performance engineering culture
This is an on-site role based at our Brisbane, California facility. You will be working at the frontier of climate technology, building systems that directly contribute to scaling carbon removal for a livable planet.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience - Strong proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript - Experience building distributed systems and data pipelines - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup environment - Passion for climate technology and large-scale carbon removal
