Green Hydrogen Process Engineer
About the Position
Plug Power is building the green hydrogen economy, providing end-to-end hydrogen solutions from production through delivery and use. The company operates one of the largest green hydrogen networks in North America, with electrolyzer manufacturing, hydrogen liquefaction plants, and fuel cell systems serving logistics, mobility, and industrial customers.
As a Green Hydrogen Process Engineer, you will support the design, optimization, and commissioning of green hydrogen production facilities powered by renewable energy. You will work across the full process chain from electrolysis through compression, purification, and storage.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize process flows for green hydrogen production plants
- Support commissioning and startup of new electrolyzer installations
- Analyze process performance data to identify efficiency improvements and reduce operating costs
- Develop process safety reviews and operating procedures
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers on system integration and troubleshooting

- Optimizing PEM electrolyzer stack performance and balance-of-plant systems
- Reducing the levelized cost of green hydrogen through process innovation
- Supporting the integration of renewable energy sources with hydrogen production systems
Requirements
- BSc or MSc in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in process engineering, preferably in hydrogen production or electrochemical systems
- Experience with PEM or alkaline electrolysis systems
- Proficiency with process simulation tools (Aspen, HYSYS, or similar)
- Understanding of hydrogen compression, purification, and storage systems
