Additionality is the principle that a carbon offset or climate project must result in emission reductions that would not have occurred without the project's intervention. It is a key criterion for validating the legitimacy of carbon credits. Without additionality, funding would flow to projects that deliver no extra climate benefit beyond business as usual.
