Direct Air Capture Process Engineer
About the Position
Climeworks operates the worldβs first commercial direct air capture (DAC) plants, removing CO2 directly from the atmosphere and storing it permanently underground. Join our engineering team to scale the next generation of DAC technology from pilot to industrial deployment.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize sorbent-based CO2 capture processes for next-generation DAC modules
- Develop process simulations and thermodynamic models to improve energy efficiency
- Collaborate with R&D teams on sorbent material testing and regeneration cycles
- Support commissioning and performance optimization of new DAC facilities in Iceland and the US
What Youβll Work On
- Scaling DAC technology from current capacity toward megatonne-scale removal
- Reducing energy consumption per tonne of CO2 captured
- Integrating waste heat and renewable energy sources into plant operations
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in chemical engineering, process engineering, or mechanical engineering - 5+ years of experience in process design, preferably in gas separation or chemical processes - Proficiency with process simulation tools (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or equivalent) - Experience with pilot-to-industrial scale-up of novel technologies - Strong understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer
What They Offer
- Equity participation in a category-defining climate company - 25 days vacation + Swiss public holidays - Generous relocation package - Annual CHF 2,000 professional development budget - Subsidized public transport pass
