About the Position
Fervo Energy is a next-generation geothermal company using breakthrough horizontal drilling and fiber optic sensing technologies to unlock carbon-free energy from the Earth’s heat. Headquartered in Houston, TX with offices in Golden, CO, Oakland, CA, Reno, NV, and Salt Lake City, UT, Fervo is scaling its enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) to deliver 24/7 clean power.
As a Geothermal Drilling Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, planning, and executing drilling programs for Fervo’s commercial geothermal projects. You will work closely with field operations, subsurface, and completions teams to optimize well delivery.
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize well plans including trajectory, casing, cementing, and completion designs
- Provide real-time drilling engineering support during field operations
- Analyze drilling performance data to identify efficiency improvements
- Collaborate with directional drilling contractors and service companies
- Develop drilling cost estimates and AFEs for upcoming projects
What You’ll Work On
- Scaling horizontal drilling techniques from pilot to commercial-scale geothermal projects
- Integrating distributed fiber optic sensing data into drilling optimization workflows
- Reducing drilling costs through technology innovation and operational learning curves
- Supporting Fervo’s expansion to new geothermal resource areas across the western United States
Requirements
- BSc or MSc in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Geological Engineering
- 3-5 years of drilling engineering experience, preferably in geothermal or oil and gas
- Experience with directional drilling, well planning, and casing design
- Familiarity with geothermal reservoir characterization and enhanced geothermal systems (EGS)
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with drilling simulation software
