As a Precision Agriculture Data Scientist, you will develop and deploy machine learning models that transform remote sensing and field data into actionable agronomic insights. Your work will directly support sustainable farming practices by enabling more precise use of inputs like water, fertilizer, and crop protection products.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate machine learning models for crop health monitoring, yield prediction, and pest detection
  • Process and analyze satellite imagery, drone data, and IoT sensor data at scale
  • Collaborate with agronomists and field researchers to translate domain knowledge into model features
  • Build data pipelines and deploy models into Syngenta’s digital agriculture platform
  • Communicate findings and model performance to technical and non-technical stakeholders

What You’ll Work On

  • Scaling precision agriculture tools across major crop systems in North and South America
  • Developing novel approaches to variable-rate application recommendations
  • Integrating multi-spectral and hyperspectral imagery for early disease detection
  • Contributing to Syngenta’s sustainability targets for reducing crop input use per unit of output

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in Data Science, Agricultural Science, Remote Sensing, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience applying machine learning to agricultural or environmental datasets
  • Proficiency in Python and geospatial analysis libraries (GeoPandas, Rasterio, Google Earth Engine)
  • Experience with satellite or drone-based remote sensing for crop monitoring
  • Strong understanding of agronomy, soil science, or plant physiology
