Energy Storage Systems Engineer
About the Position
Teslaβs Energy division designs and deploys the worldβs most advanced battery energy storage systems, from residential Powerwalls to utility-scale Megapack installations. Tesla Energy is growing rapidly, with deployments exceeding 15 GWh annually, and is a critical part of Teslaβs mission to accelerate the worldβs transition to sustainable energy.
As an Energy Storage Systems Engineer, you will design and validate utility-scale battery energy storage systems for grid-connected applications. You will work at Teslaβs Gigafactory in Austin, collaborating with hardware, firmware, and project engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Design power conversion and grid interconnection systems for Megapack deployments
- Perform electrical system studies including load flow, short circuit, and protection coordination
- Support factory acceptance testing and field commissioning of storage systems
- Analyze field performance data and develop system optimization strategies
- Collaborate with utility customers and grid operators on technical requirements
What Youβll Work On
- Next-generation Megapack system architecture and power electronics design
- Grid-forming inverter control strategies for high-renewable grids
- Thermal management optimization for extended battery cycle life
- Developing automated commissioning tools to accelerate deployment timelines
Requirements
- BS/MS in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering
- 3-5 years of experience with battery energy storage systems or power electronics
- Knowledge of grid interconnection standards (IEEE 1547, UL 1741)
- Experience with power conversion system design and commissioning
- Proficiency with PSCAD, ETAP, or similar power system simulation tools
