Vertical Aerospace

Advanced Flight Control Systems Engineer

Vertical Aerospace

📍 Bristol, England Remote Full-time Senior 🚲 Green Transport GBP 5,000–7,000/mo

About the Position

Vertical Aerospace is pioneering the future of personal air travel with on-demand, zero-carbon electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Our VX4 aircraft is designed to carry passengers with near-zero noise and zero operating emissions, transforming urban mobility. As an Advanced Flight Control Systems Engineer, you will design and develop the sophisticated control systems that make safe, autonomous urban air mobility possible.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and verify advanced flight control laws for eVTOL aircraft across all flight phases
  • Develop flight control system architectures including redundancy, failure mode analysis, and safety case development
  • Implement and test control algorithms using model-based design tools (MATLAB/Simulink)
  • Support flight test campaigns and analyze flight data to refine control system performance
  • Collaborate with aerodynamics, structures, avionics, and certification teams

What You’ll Work On

You will be solving some of the hardest engineering problems in modern aviation - designing control systems for a novel aircraft configuration that must be safe, comfortable, and certifiable under stringent aviation regulations. Your work will directly shape the flight characteristics of an aircraft that could transform how people move through cities.

This role is based in Bristol, one of the UK’s leading aerospace engineering hubs.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in flight control systems engineering for fixed-wing, rotary, or novel aircraft configurations - Proficiency in model-based design using MATLAB/Simulink - Experience with flight control law design and verification in accordance with aviation certification standards - Familiarity with DO-178C, ARP4754A, or equivalent airworthiness standards - Advanced degree in Aerospace, Control Systems, or Electrical Engineering preferred

What They Offer

  • Competitive salary and equity in a pioneering eVTOL company - Opportunity to work on cutting-edge zero-emission aviation technology - Comprehensive benefits package - Bristol location within one of Europe's top aerospace engineering ecosystems - Chance to shape the future of clean urban air mobility
