About the Position

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is the U.S. standard-setting and regulatory support organization created and governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states and U.S. territories. As a Catastrophe Risk Resilience Specialist, you will lead the NAIC’s work on climate-related financial risks within the insurance sector.

Responsibilities

  • Assess climate-related financial risks facing insurance companies and policyholders
  • Develop resilience frameworks and guidance for state insurance regulators
  • Coordinate with state insurance commissioners on catastrophe risk modeling and regulatory responses
  • Analyze the financial impact of wildfire, flood, hurricane, and extreme weather events on insurance markets
  • Produce research, policy briefs, and regulatory guidance documents

What You’ll Work On

As climate change accelerates, the insurance industry is on the front lines of physical risk. You will work at the intersection of climate science, financial regulation, and public policy - helping insurance regulators understand and respond to growing catastrophe risks that threaten insurance market stability and policyholder protection.

This is a remote role with occasional travel to NAIC offices and regulatory events.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in catastrophe risk modeling, insurance regulation, or climate finance - Deep knowledge of natural catastrophe perils including wildfire, flood, and hurricane - Experience with climate risk frameworks (TCFD, IPCC, or similar) - Strong analytical skills and ability to translate complex risk concepts for regulatory audiences - Advanced degree in risk management, environmental science, finance, or related field preferred
