Offshore Wind Environmental Permitting Specialist
About the Position
RWE is one of the worldβs leading renewable energy companies, with 10 GW of offshore wind in operation and development. Our Esbjerg office is the heart of our North Sea offshore wind operations. We are looking for an Environmental Permitting Specialist to manage the environmental approval processes for large-scale offshore wind projects in Danish and German waters.
Responsibilities
- Lead environmental impact assessments (EIA) for offshore wind farm projects in the North Sea and Baltic Sea
- Manage stakeholder consultations with environmental authorities, NGOs, and fishing communities
- Coordinate marine ecology surveys (birds, marine mammals, benthic habitats) with external consultants
- Ensure compliance with Natura 2000, EU Habitats Directive, and national environmental legislation
What Youβll Work On
- Environmental permitting for 1 GW+ offshore wind projects
- Biodiversity net gain strategies and marine habitat restoration initiatives
- Cumulative impact assessments for North Sea wind development
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in environmental permitting, EIA, or marine ecology - In-depth knowledge of EU environmental legislation (Habitats Directive, Birds Directive, Marine Strategy Framework Directive) - Experience with offshore wind or marine infrastructure projects - Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills - Fluent English; Danish or German is a significant advantage
