About the Position

Rivian is an American electric vehicle manufacturer dedicated to keeping the world adventurous forever. The company produces the R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV, and is developing next-generation electric platforms for both consumer and commercial vehicles at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois.

As an EV Powertrain Engineer, you will design, test, and optimize powertrain systems for Rivian’s next-generation electric vehicles. You will work in a fast-paced environment alongside world-class engineers pushing the boundaries of EV performance, efficiency, and durability.

Responsibilities

  • Design and validate powertrain components including motors, inverters, and gearboxes
  • Develop and calibrate motor control algorithms for optimal efficiency and performance
  • Conduct bench and vehicle-level testing of powertrain systems
  • Analyze test data and simulation results to identify improvement opportunities
  • Collaborate with battery, thermal, and vehicle dynamics teams on system integration

What You’ll Work On

  • Next-generation drive unit development for improved range and performance
  • Thermal management optimization for sustained high-power operation
  • Powertrain software calibration for new vehicle platforms
  • Durability validation testing and failure analysis

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Automotive Engineering
  • 3-6 years of experience in EV powertrain development
  • Experience with motor control, inverter design, or battery management systems
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink and CAD tools
  • Knowledge of CAN, LIN, and automotive communication protocols
