Field Botanist
About the Position
AECOM is a global infrastructure consulting firm delivering environmental services across North America. Our Denver ecology team is seeking a Field Botanist to support botanical surveys and environmental compliance for energy, transportation, and land development projects across Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region.
Responsibilities
- Conduct rare and sensitive plant species surveys for federal and state-listed species
- Perform vegetation mapping, habitat assessments, and wetland delineations
- Collect and identify plant specimens and maintain herbarium vouchers
- Prepare technical reports for NEPA environmental assessments and biological opinions
- Coordinate with federal and state agencies including USFWS, BLM, and USFS
- Assist with habitat restoration and revegetation monitoring programs
What Youβll Work On
You will conduct fieldwork across Coloradoβs diverse ecosystems - from alpine meadows and montane forests to shortgrass prairie and riparian corridors. Projects include botanical surveys for renewable energy developments, highway expansions, and oil and gas operations. The position offers seasonal field intensity (AprilβOctober) with report writing and GIS work during winter months.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Botany, Plant Biology, or Ecology - 3+ years of professional field botany experience in the western United States - Strong plant identification skills for Rocky Mountain and Great Plains flora - Experience conducting rare plant surveys under ESA Section 7 and NEPA - Proficiency with GPS/GIS data collection and ArcGIS - Valid driver's license and ability to work in remote field locations
