Native Plant Nursery Manager
About the Position
Save The Bay has been protecting San Francisco Bay for over 60 years. As Native Plant Nursery Manager, you will lead nursery operations across three Bay Area locations and play a central role in our habitat restoration mission - propagating the native plants that restore wetlands, tidal marshes, and transition zones around the Bay.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day nursery operations across three Bay Area sites
- Propagate 30,000+ native wetland and transition zone plants annually
- Supervise the Nursery Specialist and lead volunteer engagement programs
- Conduct seed collection trips to natural areas throughout the Bay region
- Ensure phytosanitary compliance and maintain plant health standards
- Participate in habitat restoration field activities and planting events
What You’ll Work On
You will directly grow the plants that go back into the ground to restore San Francisco Bay’s shoreline. This role combines hands-on horticultural work, team leadership, volunteer coordination, and field restoration - all in service of one of California’s most iconic and ecologically vital ecosystems.
This is a hybrid role with significant on-site nursery presence required.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in native plant production, restoration nursery, or botanical horticulture - Knowledge of California native plant species, especially Bay Area wetland plants - Experience supervising staff or volunteers - Ability to conduct seed collection in diverse natural areas - Valid California driver's license and physical ability to perform field and nursery work
