About the Position

Plantlife is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to wild plant and fungi conservation. We work to protect rare wildflowers, champion important plant habitats, and inspire people to enjoy and value the wild plant world. We are looking for a Plant Conservation Officer to deliver practical conservation projects across southern England.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and deliver plant conservation projects for priority habitats and species
  • Conduct botanical surveys and monitor rare plant populations
  • Work with landowners, farmers, and local authorities to implement habitat management plans
  • Coordinate and train volunteer survey teams
  • Prepare funding applications and project reports for donors and statutory bodies
  • Represent Plantlife at stakeholder meetings and public engagement events

What You’ll Work On

You will lead conservation efforts for some of England’s most threatened wild plants, including species on road verges, meadows, and ancient woodlands. Projects include delivering Plantlife’s flagship Road Verge Campaign, coordinating the County Wildflower Survey, and supporting the UK’s plant recovery programmes. The role offers a meaningful career making a direct difference for plant biodiversity in the UK.

Requirements

  • Degree in Conservation Biology, Botany, or Ecology - 3+ years experience in plant conservation or habitat management - Strong UK plant identification skills (FISC Level 3+) - Experience working with landowners, volunteers, and conservation partners - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Full UK driving license
