Conservation Project Officer
About the Position
IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) is a membership union composed of government and civil society organizations, working to conserve nature and accelerate the transition to sustainable development. Headquartered in Gland, Switzerland, IUCN is the global authority on the status of the natural world.
As a Conservation Project Officer, you will manage and coordinate biodiversity conservation projects funded by major international donors. You will work with IUCN’s regional offices and member organizations to deliver measurable conservation outcomes across priority ecosystems.
Responsibilities
- Manage the implementation of multi-country conservation projects with budgets up to EUR 5M
- Coordinate with regional offices and national partners on project activities and reporting
- Monitor project progress against indicators and prepare donor reports
- Organize technical workshops and capacity-building events for project partners
- Contribute to proposal development for new conservation initiatives
What You’ll Work On
- Implementing the EU-funded Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection Programme
- Developing monitoring frameworks for nature-based solutions projects
- Supporting the update of IUCN Red List assessments for key species groups
- Coordinating IUCN’s input to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
Requirements
- MSc in Conservation Biology, Ecology, or Environmental Management
- 3-5 years of experience in conservation project management
- Experience with biodiversity monitoring methodologies and GIS tools
- Strong grant writing and donor reporting skills
- Fluent in English; French is highly desirable
